Stitch School:Sewing Classes For Kids & Teens at Warman Cozy

We are so excited to introduce our new sewing program for Kids and Teens being offered at Warman Cozy!

We had so much fun with our kid’s camps all summer long. The students learned so much and grew in their confidence and creativity. And we want to keep that going all year long! Read on to hear all about Stitch School at Warman Cozy, taught by Kate Nel, and using curriculum from Sewciety Kids, and see if it might be the right thing for a young person in your life!

Introductory Class:

Our Introductory Class is a 2 hour long introduction to using a sewing machine and learning the basics to get it going.  Students learn how to thread a machine, wind a bobbin, and sew.  They will learn all about seam allowance, sewing a straight seam, pinning fabrics and working with patterns.  During the workshop, students will get a taste of sewing something by making a drawstring pouch to take home with them.  All supplies are included in the cost of this class.

This is a pre-requisite for Stitch School. We recommend Stitch School for ages 8+. If you have a younger student, please reach out and we can discuss options. We ask a parent or the registering adult to come to the last 10 minutes of the Introductory Class to hear about the options for continuing in Stitch School and what that all entails and to have a chance to get any of their questions answered.

Stitch School at Warman Cozy:

Stitch School is broken up into sessions.  A session is a group of six classes with a built-in make-up day at the end.

We will be using curriculum by Sewciety Kids for these classes. This curriculum, while still always being improved has been tested and proven in other shops around the country. The Sewciety Kids curriculum is made up of 4 Levels.  When a student starts our sewing program, they will begin making projects at Level 1.  During each class they progress through a series of unit projects in their Level, being able to complete 2-3 projects during a session (6 weeks).  Each Unit has two projects with the first being a craft, accessory, or decor item and the second a garment.  Students can complete all the projects up to Level 4!

Each student needs to purchase one of our basic sewing kits when enrolling in their first Session.  This will be held at Warman Cozy for them with any project items while they are still in progress.  As soon as a student finishes their project, they get to take it home and show it off!

The supplies for each project are not included in the price of the sessions.  When your student is ready to start a new project, they will receive a supply list for the project.  You are able to buy most of the supplies at Warman Cozy and there may be a few items that you need to purchase elsewhere.  Items will be listed that way.

Why is this Sewing Program the way to go?  It simplifies your class registration.  If you have a particularly busy season, you can wait for the next session to come available and your student will pick up with their next project in the progression.  The projects start simple and with each new project, new skills are learned, building on the previous skills.  Our instructor will help keep track of their progress and update it every time they join our sessions and finish their next project.

It also means that your student can work at his or her own pace.  This is really helpful when developing their skills.  The temptation to rush to complete a project doesn’t build a very good foundation.  With the slower pace our kids’ classes provide, their foundation will be set.  They will be able to master basic skills as they continue to learn new skills with each new project.

If you’re already convinced, you can sign your student up HERE now for the Introductory Class! Or read on for more dates and details!

🧵 Why Sewing Is a Great Skill for Kids and Teens

  1. It Sparks Creativity
Sewing lets you bring your ideas to life—whether you're making a cool bag, a costume, or your own pillow. You get to choose colors, patterns, and designs that are totally you.

  2. It Teaches Patience and Problem-Solving
Sewing isn’t always easy, and that’s a good thing! You learn how to slow down, fix mistakes, and figure out how things go together—just like solving a puzzle.

  3. It Builds Confidence
When you finish a sewing project, you can say, “I made that!” It feels awesome to create something real with your own hands. The more you make, the more confident you become.

  4. It’s a Super Useful Life Skill
Knowing how to sew means you can fix clothes, make gifts, or even design your own fashion. It’s a skill you’ll keep using as you grow up.

✂️ Why Parents Love Weekly Sewing Classes for Their Kids

  1. Screen-Free, Creative Time
Sewing offers a hands-on, focused break from screens. Kids get fully absorbed in creating something real—and parents love knowing their child is building a skill, not just passing time.

  2. Builds Focus, Patience, and Confidence
Sewing helps kids slow down and develop attention to detail. As they complete projects, they gain a real sense of achievement, which boosts self-esteem and pride.

  3. Safe, Calm, and Productive Environment
Weekly sewing classes give kids a peaceful, structured setting to learn and grow. It’s a quiet activity that promotes mindfulness and responsibility while still being fun and social.

  4. They Bring Home Something Useful or Cute!
Each week, kids leave class with something they’ve made—whether it’s a scrunchie, pencil case, stuffed animal, or part of a larger project. Parents love seeing real results and creative progress.

  5. Develops Fine Motor Skills
Sewing helps improve hand-eye coordination, dexterity, and precision. Threading needles, guiding fabric, and making stitches are all activities that strengthen small muscle control in hands and fingers.

If we don’t need to cancel any other sessions, these can be used as make-up classes for any student that had to miss a class during the semester for any reason. Please don’t send a sick student so that we can keep all of these classes going and utilize the make-up date so that each student still has time to complete their projects.
